Days go by quickly. At times, months disappear without my conscious reevaluation of some of the paths I am on. Lots of (good) changes are going on in my world right now: two of the biggest being our move to Houston, TX a few weeks ago, a new full-time job down here, and the arrival of our third daughter in a month or so. It has been a slow transition to the even slower southern way of life but a great opportunity to step back from pretty much everything and reevaluate some variation of the old “5 year plan.”
Part of that plan is transitioning out of booking weddings. I have been blessed beyond measure by the fantastic couples I have been able to work with over the past 7 years (has it been 7??). Witnessing and capturing your joy has truly been my joy, honor, and privilige and I can’t thank you enough for putting your trust in me during such an important time in your lives.
It’s not at all that I am tired of it, or don’t have interest in continuing, or anything like that. Quite the opposite, I’m glad I can walk away happy. Truthfully, I think my age is showing in my desire to be in a niche of the market that has a much greater tolerance for calamity. As our family grows I feel the need to play it safer – for example, I shot Jenn & Matt’s wedding last year a few days before my second daughter was born – it definitely crossed my mind what a pickle I’d be in if the two events were to fatefully coincide.
I am indescribably thankful they did not, but as our children grow in size and number I foresee a greater potential to have to make decisions between immovable obligations and that is something I am happy to avoid as I transition into the world of booking portraiture and family sessions.
So get ready to see more of that as soon as I blog my last few weddings and we get settled in the southland.
Peace!
best of luck Dan Pepe and family. truly did a great job on Jes and Chris’s wedding in Plymouth last year. Wishing you luck and success in your new endeavors.
Well put. I’m happy we got married BEFORE this game changer 😉
